Places to visit

City Walls of Dubrovnik
Previous
Next

Dubrovnik City Walls were built all around the Old Town of Dubrovnik, around the seashore, to protect a town from pirates and other unwelcome guests. These enormous walls that encircle the entire Old Town, dotted by fortresses and overlooking the sea are indeed the city’s most famous feature.

Lokrum Island

The first mention of Lokrum in writing came in 1023, in connection with the founding of the Benedictine abbey and monastery. According to legend Richard the Lion-Heart was cast ashore here after being shipwrecked in 1192 while returning from the Crusades. The vow he made to build a church on the spot where he came ashore should he be saved was kept at least in part.

Lapad Bay
Previous
Next

Lapad is a large peninsula situated just outside of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, on its Western side. Lapad is relatively new part of Dubrovnik, not as old as Dubrovnik’s Old Town. The houses and block of flats around here were mostly built in late 1960’s and 1970s and around the same time, several new hotels were also constructed, the latest ones are in Babin Kuk area.
