National Park Mljet

Mljet National Park is a large area that borders two saltwater lakes – Veliko and Malo Jezero (Large and Small Lake). The Lakes stretch for about 4 kilometres. Right in the middle of the Large Lake, there is a small island/islet Melita (Sveta Marija) with a large building of the former Benedictine monastery, erected there in the 12th century (see photo above). The monastery’s building is now café/restaurant. The small island is connected by boats that sail there from both sides of the Lake.

Okuklje

Beautiful little bay on the northern shore of the island, Okuklje is a popular summer destination for visitors to Mljet. The bay is also a popular anchorage spot for sailors as a safe haven (in case of bad weather) on their way along the coast to Dubrovnik. Facing Croatian Mainland, this relaxed seaside small and quiet village offers several holiday houses and apartments, a couple of restaurants and cafes. A lot of good swimming spots to enjoy the clear waters. Hills around the bay are excellent hiking location offering great views over the channel.

Polače

Polače is a hidden gem in the central part of the Mljet island. One of the oldest villages, positioned near the National park, vineyards and some field, with preserved farms and many old houses from stone and other local materials. Village is calm, just with some tourists who love nature and old culture.

Ston City

Ston offers an unique environment as a town with the second longest stone wall in the world (5,5 km), with narrow quiet streets, noble ancient houses and with traces of ancient cultures. History of this Medieval little town reaches back as far as the 14th century. Its former value as a „salt city“ gets confirmed even today in the plants of the oldest active salt-works in the world. Ston is a little fishing city, known for the best seafood in Croatia. Ston bay is famous for oysters and mussel beds.
