Mljet National Park is a large area that borders two saltwater lakes – Veliko and Malo Jezero (Large and Small Lake). The Lakes stretch for about 4 kilometres. Right in the middle of the Large Lake, there is a small island/islet Melita (Sveta Marija) with a large building of the former Benedictine monastery, erected there in the 12th century (see photo above). The monastery’s building is now café/restaurant. The small island is connected by boats that sail there from both sides of the Lake

Lumbarda is a small fishermen’s village of around 1200 inhabitants. It is situated at the eastern part of Island of Korčula, about 5 kilometars from Korčula Old Town. The village is built around a small bay and on the hills behind it and is surrounded by large sandy vineyards. In the 3rd century BC, a Greek settlement was founded here from which originated the Psephism and the gnathia vases found in graves (can be seen in the Korčula Town Museum).

The sixth largest Island in Croatia, Korčula is 20 miles long and rather narrow, between 4 and 5 miles wide on average. This Island is known for its dense forest and the ancient Greeks called the Island Black Korčula for its reason. The main resorts are Korčula Town (people call it “Little Dubrovnik” because of its medieval squares, churches, palaces and houses), Vela Luka and Lumbarda. There are also smaller towns and villages dotted around on the Island for those looking for a more secluded holiday.
